the goblin showed up

"...hi..." said the goblin, wondering if he'd even come to the right place is, his thoughts were more on the coffee machine at this point, but he just continued "...well there's not really much to say about me, married with kids I suppose, that's me then..." and then something crossed his mind "...you see, the trouble in ones introduction is simply, if you don't meet the other person, there's absolutely no way to prove anything anyway since these are just words here, and the reader is blind, I mean anyone of us could be just anything then, who knows I could even be a human for that matter MYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, no no just joking, thought it was funny though..."

It's true what you say, roguish goblin. I could even be a convicted sex offender for all you know. *Eyes dart around nervously*
So, might I inquire as to what your preferred genera is?

"...I'm from the livewriter's scene, you can always find a livewriter by their usernames, but it's not roleplaying, for this mask remains throughout, simply I like meeting creatures on forumland, that's all..." replied the goblin now, adding "...so tell me about roleplaying then..."

It's kind of like communal story telling in a sense. Each person involved in that particular roleplay will usually create a character, and then contribute to the story by posting, but only through the eyes of their character. It's sort of like your live writing by the looks of it, although you only control that particular character in the corresponding roleplay, and usually write in more of a novel style.
Still though, I'm only generalizing. Each roleplay will differ somewhat, based on the precedent the game master sets.

"...so the moment you stop roleplaying you take off your mask I take it..." replied the goblin thinking on that now, continuing "...and then you put on another mask in a different roleplay I imagine, and the first mask is thus forgotten, and then no one remembers you because your persona is has been muddled and mixed, so much so that no one can find and follow you...", the goblin was almost out of time here, but felt he had just enough time to explain the difference, "...livewriters never changed their persona knowing that that is probably the most remembered thing about them, the second being the writings, some livewriters don't write in third person, most do though needing a persona, but their goal is to draw readers to their posts, and I take it you like writing too..."

Well it's not really forgotten, because people are constantly going in and updating each story. I guess where roleplaying differs from live writing is in the fact that it focuses more on creating a story as a group then a continued persona throughout the forum. I guess live writing is more of a solo project?

"...ah, I like you now, you have an honest air about you and a quick mind too it seems..." replied the goblin, somewhat early into his evening's posting session here, continuing "...but what if you took your roleplay out of its set context, that you yourself become your own desired persona here, in that if you roleplay with others, then aren't you rather tied into some familiar setting, doesn't the reader get so used to same old fantasy world each time, so do you like writing, think about it...", and with that the goblin would start a game here, hoping to see what the others would post, saying "...ever played "last post", care to play "last post" with me now..." and with that the goblin was off to the games section, but everybody knew that goblin's posted pictures and that they couldn't be trusted

It's true that things can get a bit repetitive, but I think a good story teller can find ways to keep things fresh while still incorporating classic elements.
It's important to note, though, that the "same old fantasy world" might be something entirely new to someone out there. Preference and experience are both big factors in a general roleplaying site such is this, and practically ensure that no two individuals will have an identical experience.
Some never tire of the generic fantasy worlds your goblin kind often spawn from, while others constantly seek new lands. I think once this site grows, we'll see a lot of both. Some lands will thrive, others will fall.

"...ah no not me, my goblin roots are in computer repairs, the guy who swaps bits then..." smiled the goblin, adding "...but either way the livewriter has the choice of deciding how true his or her mask will be here, for example silentxmidnight is total as a spirit, whereas JATS and I and loose in being a chameleon and a goblin respectively, simply the username was the way to have readers find one, so the username had to be unique enough to turn up ones other threads in a google search, while the persona was more link one trade mark here...", where the goblin didn't know how many times he had read the words "that bloody goblin", and then the goblin remembered something else, saying "...also if one writes in third person, then one has no choice but to have a persona, because the reader keeps asking "but who or what is saying this", simply if you write with me in third person, that's the first stumbling block this you will come across, so what is Talz when he writes in third person alone..."

the goblin admitted that he had never met charmander before, and felt that this pokeman creature was brighter than most who only every seemed to say the same thing, adding "...I guess I came here when I saw the word anonymous, where I guess that anywhere anonymous is somewhere one has to wear a mask to be so

"You could say so" responded the charmander, adding "but technically, don't we all hide behind the screen that is the web?"

"...oh yes, you are one of the first creatures I have come across recently, that seems to know that all is a mask here, so everything and everybody is unprovable, and yet if you were to land on any one of those writer's foruns, there are photos in the avatar, links to there blogs, life history in profile, etc., where none of it matters, because in the end, it's just "do I have something worth reading in front of my eyes", besides people don't come here to read, they came here to reply now...." voiced the goblin within that short time before work again
